Marbella / La Resina Golf and Country Club area
Take a walk along Marbella, San Pedro or Estepona's promenades and stop off at the many superb Chiringuitos along the way.
MARBELLA'S motto is "A Way of Life" and, certainly, this luxurious resort town seems to have it all and is, once again, rising to the fore as a favourite location with the rich and famous, as well as more ordinary folk who are willing to pay just a little bit extra for southern Spain's answer to St Tropez.
Not too long ago, Marbella sharpened its image still more thanks to a considerable investment initiated by the town's colourful and controversial late mayor, Jesus Gil which resulted in a massive landscaping drive.
But Marbella has a down to earth side as well, an air of individuality which can be best appreciated by exploring back streets in the old part of town. One of the prettiest places is the fabled 'Orange Square' which is located just off the main street in the older district and is also home to the 16th century town hall and tourist office where you can pick up a detailed map and visitor information.
Your visit might very well inspire you to consider living in Marbella, if so click here for an introduction to the neighbourhoods that make this such a charming place to live.
Back to Orange Square, or "La Plaza de los Naranjos", as it is called in Spanish, expect to meet with stately buildings, small shops, art galleries, bars and bistros and is a hub of activity day and night. And, depending on the time of year, the colours here can be vibrant, with the trees and exotic tropical plants set against a backdrop of dazzling white buildings and a deep blue sky.
Be sure to explore the honeycomb of surrounding narrow streets where homes and shops intermingle to create the atmosphere of a small village, rather than a cosmopolitan town. There are numerous excellent restaurants to choose from, ranging from those specialising in the predictably pricey exclusive cordon bleu to the gritty individuality of a backstreet Spanish bar where the Serrano ham is gently cured by tobacco smoke and the tapas are both tasty and filling.
THE COSTA DEL SOL stretches along just over 150 kilometres of Málaga province and is one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations. The area's mild climate is the root attraction that makes it possible to enjoy the beaches and a wide variety of outdoor activities year round.
SAN PEDRO an appealing Andalucian Pueblo was once famous for it’s sugar cane and is traditionally a farming community. Today San Pedro is a busy coastal town only minutes away from the Sierra de Ronda mountain range. Located just 10km west of Marbella where trendy shops and night-life are within easy reach
Every year thousands of people from all over the world flock to the Costa del Sol to enjoy the beautiful San Pedro beaches. Whether you are looking for a beach that is a small, private cove or one that is miles and miles of soft golden sand, the Costa del Sol has something for everyone.
ESTEPONA is the Costa del Sol's most westerly resort and lies 75 km from Malaga airport at the foot of the Sierra Bermeja mountains. Originally a fishing village Estepona has developed as a mainly Spanish resort and has managed to avoid too many high rise hotels and apartment blocks.
It has a much more authentic atmosphere than many of the other resorts of the Costa del Sol with typical Andalusian whitewashed houses and balconies decorated with flowers. The houses are whitewashed and iron gates painted every year to maintain the feeling of a cared for town.
The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Marbella, San Pedro and Estepona regions most definitely have a tranquil, 'Spanish' feel to them.
With an abundance of bars and restaurants nearby, Marbella, San Pedro and Estepona areas are places to relax and unwind.
There is lots to do for all ages on the Costa del Sol. Here are just a few:
Cable Ski in San Pedro
Water Park about 25 minutes drive away
Fuengirola Zoo
Selwo Adventure Park
Gibraltar - The Rock is 40 minutes drive away
Local Sea Trips
Boat Trips - swim with dolphins
Historical sites at Ronda and Mijas
DIRECTIONS FOR DRIVING:
Leave the airport heading towards the sea. Approximately 500 metres after leaving the airport you will see a sign on your right indicating "Algeciras - Cadiz". Take this road.
After approximately 2 kilometres, following the signs to take the A7 toll road. This is directly after the blue signs above the road.
Continue driving for about 55 kilometres you will pass the exits 183 and 181. These lead to the centre of Marbella town. Keep driving on the toll road until you pass the exit 181A and keep in the centre lane until you pass through the tunnel. After the tunnel, you will see that you join the main N 340 (the non-toll road). This is the coastal route from Malaga to Cadiz. You will see a big shopping centre called Hipercor on your left. (This is Puerto Banus) Continue straight along this main road passing the Casino on your right. Take the 2nd turn right after the Casino and pull into the car park of El Rodeito Restaurant.
Unless you know exactly where you are going this restaurant will be our meeting point.
